Gathered friends, listen again to our legend of the Bionicle…

Have you ever wanted to do just that, only to realize that you had no clue how to read the whole story? The Bionicle story was told a little bit at a time over the course of a decade, in nearly every format available. How do you read something like that? Is there one go-to source? How do I sit on my couch and read the story like a normal book?

That’s how I felt many years ago, and quickly discovered that there was basically no convenient way to do it. So I decided to do it myself, and after several years of on-and-off transcribing and editing, ended up with my pride and joy: hardcover editions of the complete written Bionicle story.

At about the same time I was finishing that project, I discovered that I was not the only one with similar aspirations. Several different projects of this type had also been in-progress at the same time as mine, and have since been completed. I’ve kept my eye on these projects and others like them for years now, occassionally recommending them when I see people asking for the story.

This is my attempt at a one-stop-shop for all the various Bionicle compilation projects, to help guide people to them, and so that I can just link to this from now on. I’ve gathered all of the projects I’m aware of, plus some additional archival sites to help future projects. I’ll keep this updated as I discover new projects.

Completed Story Projects

  • Bionicle Hardcover: This is my project. It gathers all of the written material (novels, online serials, and short stories) into a 7 volume hardcover set, respecting the original book/chapter breaks as much as possible. The physical hardcover set is not for sale (can’t sell what I don’t own the rights to), but the source files are available for download. I also made an epub version.
  • Biological Chronicle: The first of these projects to see the light of day, this the definitive work BZPower user TuragaNuva, and is arguably the most popular project among those who want to read the whole story straight through. It gathers all of the visual and written material into PDFs, re-organizing the various sources into a unified whole. See also Cross-Wired Geeks website, and this cool paperback printed version made by u/MarkED912.
  • Wall of History: This incredible project is the work of u/JSLBrowning. It is a website that gathers all of the available Bionicle story media into an online reading/watching experience. If reading from a website is your thing, or you want the absolutely complete Bionicle story, this is the place to go. See also Mask of Destiny, a community of Bionicle projects that Wall of History is associated with.
  • Complete Multimedia Order: u/beyhnji_ made a handy reddit post that does some of what this post is trying to do, along with providing an outline of the Bionicle media in a recommended reading order.

Unfinished Story Projects

  • Digitized Legends books: One of the more recent projects, u/Huemus is working on recreating the novels as PDFs, in a way that looks just like the originals novels. As of right now, the Bionicle Legends novels have been completed, and they look impressive!
  • Reading Bionicle podcast: In this podcast, Tiberius Codius has narrationed the Bionicle novels as audiobooks. All of the Chronicles and a few of the Adventures have been completed.
  • Bionicle Anthologie: A French translation and compilation project that is still in progress, and makes me want to learn French…

Media Archival Projects

  • BioMedia Project: A website that maintains an archive of all known Bionicle media. Seriously, all of it.
  • Emily: YouTube user Emily has uploaded or gathered probably every Bionicle video ever made, plus a whole bunch of other official Lego videos.
  • Bionicle Animations Archive: A YouTube channel that has a variety of Bionicle media, most notably the original trilogy of films.
  • Brickshelf: Contains a JPG collection of the all of the comics
  • ReadAllComics: Contains a JPG collection of the all of the comics
  • Internet Archive: Has snapshots of the old Bionicle websites (e.g. BionicleStory.com), along with just about every other website on the internet.

Honorable Mentions

  • FaberFiles: Christian Faber was one of the original creators of Bionicle, and maintains a blog where he posts behind-the-scenes material, among other things. It’s not technically a reading or archival project, but I think it merits a place here.
  • Bionicle Compendium: I put this under honorable mentons because you can’t get this yourself, but I think it deserves a shout out anyway. DeviantArt user CrunchbiteNuva created a single-volume hardcover omnibus of the entire Bionicle comic series. I am jealous.
